Montpelier, VT -- August 30, 2007

One of the five Montpelier bookstores.

Local Vermont authors who have and who will visit them this fall: Jeffrey Lent, Howard Norman, Howard Frank Moser, Rowan Jacobson, Rusty Dewees (a real Vermont guy, does film, well known in Vermont. Has a new book coming out). Shelburne Farms is going to do a cooking event and, at the end of the year, in November, Archer Mayor is going to come. He’s a Vermont mystery writer and he always closes out the year because his books come out in November.

John Dean came last fall. With Montpelier being the state capital they get a lot of demand for political books.

Senator Leahy, when he’s not in Washington, comes in for his newspaper. A couple of weeks ago he recommended the book Legacy of Ashes: The History of the CIA, by Tim Weiner.

Lots going on in Montpelier. It’s a beautiful, community oriented town. At the bookstore they sell tickets for concerts, plays, for events that have no box office, for example, Capital City Concerts and circus tickets.

They are doing an All Vermont children’s book right now for Vermont Reads, called Counting on Grace, by Elizabeth Winthrop, a Vermont author. The store is alos starting a kids’ book club.

Her husband works across the street at the Rivendell bookstore which has just used books. They moved here five years ago.
