Portland, ME -- August 29, 2007

Standing on this hill I had that feeling of eureka, or more like, duh--Portland is Portland because it's got a port. But, if surroundings give a name, it could, just as easily be called Communityland.

Here's a chalkboard in the town square announcing, among other things, an art walk and the farmers market. It was a sunny day and it seemed like the whole town was gathered together, buying produce, sitting in the sun, talking with their neighbors. As in Portsmouth, buy local stickers were rampant.

And, a bulletin board in the recently opened North Star Cafe, host to live music, spoken word....tango lessons.
