Atlantic City, NJ -- August 26, 2007

Reading The First Days of School, by Harry K. Wong and Rosemary T. Wong. This year is the first time she’ll have her own class. She’s teaching the first grade after having subbed for 6months at PS72 in Brooklyn.

Her favorite book--She’s Come Undone, by Wally Lamb. What makes it so good? It’s the journey of a young girl and what she overcame. She also likes Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys and Alice Walker’s Temple of My Familiar, which she read recently.

Her own book—she would write about her life, a memoir of an international student from Jamaica facing obstacles, the biggest being financial, and also being away from family and a breakup when she was 21 years old. She came her to go to college in Brooklyn. She got pregnant and was a single parent and stayed in school. Most of her family now lives in Atlanta.

Her favorite book for kids that she’s going to read to her first graders--The Kissing Hand, by Audrey Penn.
