Reading Couldn't Keep It to Myself: Wally Lamb and the Women of York Correctional Institution, by Wally Lamb. The author/editor of the book went to a prison to teach prisoners how to write, to come to terms with their life and find peace. Through writing, they grew to accept themselves. The book is a compilation of the stories that the women wrote along with a forward from the author/teacher/editor.

The book, she says, is very depressing, though she’s enjoying it very much. The women in the stories have had lives she has never seen before.

The author makes a point of saying that about ninety-five percent of the women in prison have been abused at some point of their lives. She’s reading the book for her book club.

What else has she read lately? The new Harry Potter book and books for her book club--Snow, by Orhan Pamuk and Eat, Pray, Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert, which has inspired her to sign up for a meditation class in the fall.
