Between Nashville and Little Rock -- on the bus -- September 2, 2007

Reading The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand.

Recently he read Invisible Monsters, by Chuck Palahniuk, which, he said, was interesting and weird, about people focused on the facade, on what they look like and being faced with realities and unmasking who we really are. Palahniuk deals with personality quirks and how fucked up people are in the head. People are creating their own realities and in those realities they become prisoners based on what people want.

His favorite book? He’s still discovering books. He just started reading for pleasure again five years ago. Something he really liked was Life of Pi, by Yann Martel. Interesting, but not his favorite. It just sticks out.

His own book would be fiction based on reality, the two entwined together. He’d tell someone else’s story.

One wonderful thing about Chicago, where he moved to from Little Rock where he grew up—the architecture is so diverse. You walk through and always see something you’ve never seen…that and the diversity. He loves New York, too, for that reason.

OOoooh - I love the Fountainhead! Wow, that guy's sure making up for lost time, if he's only started reading fiction 5 years ago...
